Boyd Tank Fittings
I searched with no luck. Does anyone have the part numbers for the fittings I need for the tank? I would assume they are both 90 degree fittings. I had AN949-06-06B, but Summit no longer carries it. I also show AN816-06-06B. Need to connect both of these fittings to a Russell 610025 6 AN fitting that are on my lines running to the WIX Filter/Regulator.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
I did some more searching. Does this look like what I will need? I won't use the 610025's now on the hose ends.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
the tank may have both supply and return fittings in 3/8 NPT thread - you'd have to check the tank.
if you aren't running return, you would only need one. mines an older tank, but it used both 3/8 NPT threaded into tank. I used 2 right angle 3/8NPT to -6AN fittings, and then put straight -6AN hose fittings on my hose. what are you needing the ORB o ring fitting for, aftermarket rails? Stock rails won't use that fitting.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
this fitting will connect to a stock fuel rail, then put a -6AN hose end fitting on your hose...either straight or 90*
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/i...-02b/overview/ I like these a little better, no dealing with the plastic inner clips...that seem to fight you when you need to disconnect it. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-644123/overview/

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
No, this is not for the fuel rail. The ORB fitting was for the fuel line out on the pump side according to what I found on other threads. The 3/8" NPT was for the return (back from the WIX). If I can do 3/8" NPT on both of them that would be good.
Here is what Boyd's site says about the tank: 1/2" NPT Vent 3/8" NPT Return #6 ORB Female Pump Outlet Was trying to get these ordered today so they will be here when the tank arrives.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
NPT stands for National Pipe Thread and is an American standard thread. It may also be reffered to as MPT , MNPT or NPT (M) for male external threads and FPT, FNPT or NPT(F) for female interal threads. A thread sealant must always be used to achieve a leak free seal (except for NPTF).

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
It takes a orb 8 fitting to an out of the tank then 3/8 to an for the return. Also you need a 3/8 plug for your drain. This is what i did but i am using a vette fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
My tank came yesterday. You are correct on the pump outlet and return. The drain is also a 3/8NPT.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
When installing the fittings, what is everyone using for thread protection? I was taught ages ago never to use Teflon tape, like plumbers tape, on fuel fittings to prevent leaking. Not compatible with fuel is what was taught to me. I've got the -6 ORB which is an o-ring base, and that shouldn't get anything. The return, rollover vent and drain fitting however have no o-ring base and are NPT. Be OK to run without thread sealant/protectant?
Truth is, I really hate the directions that come with Boyds tanks, could they be a bit less informative, let alone, if you order with a rollover valve, why doesn't it come with one and not just the bung welded in place. Many manufactures are this way lately and it is so aggravating when it is a hodge-podge.

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
They make teflon tape specifically for petroleum products, its yellow in color. I've used it on NPT threads with petroleum based products and never had leaks.
I have a Boyd's tank with a rollover vent and it came with the tank, I ordered it with that option too. I'd give them a call and ask why it didn't come with it, if you ordered it specifically. Last edited by AZ 67 C10; 12-31-2018 at 06:00 PM. |

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
Found some thread sealant, Locktite 56521. Package says it is compatible with fuel, oil, and more. Thank you for the yellow tape suggestion found that as well, but it said "gas, pipe fittings, etc" not fuel. I'm sure it would have been fine but chose to go with the sealant.
Considering I bought my tank more than 8 months ago, I don't think there is much recourse at this point. Rollover bung is even in a different location on my tank compared with current diagrams and the picture above posted by 62Chevy302. Will likely get in touch with them and get one though instead of trying to find or make something "work".

Re: Boyd Tank Fittings
Thanks for that info Mykidstoy. I'll double check the size, thought the rollover bung is 1/2 NPT and that valve is 3/8 NPT. Nothing an adapter can't fix. Very much appreciate the link!
