8.1 engine mounts?

I removed my old 454 from my 72 GMC yet the engine mounts on the 8.1 are vastly different. I have found where people somehow used the old mounts with the 8100 vortec yet the engine mount bolt pattern on the block looks different for some reason.

Anybody know any really good engine mounts for a conversion like this? Possibly poly type? I can't find much info on the 8.1 .

You might try member DirtyLarry. He has a 8.1 in his square body, which shouldn't be that hard to adapt to fit your needs.

Re: 8.1 engine mounts?

Yea would like to contact him, he has a picture of the old mounts on a 8.1 yet the mounting holes doesn't look the same as mine. I have a 04-06 model though, I wouldn't think that would change anything.

Dirty Larry sez:

"The 8100 block has the same motor mount points as early small and big block Chevy's. Even the heads shared the same exhaust flange pattern. I was able to use a set of hedders from Dynomax and they bolted right up! A Turbo 400 bolted right up the 8100 and the torque converted bolted right up to the stock 8100 flex plate. Even a stock starter for a 1977 Chevy small block bolted right up, cranks over fine."

I'm not sure if they changed anything in the later blocks or not but I wouldn't think so.

I wouldn't use the poly mounts, they transfer too much vibration. The regular '72 BB clam shell mounts would be the best if you can find some.

Re: 8.1 engine mounts?

I bought the inserts Larry suggests for the clamshell mounts. We'll see how they work out.

Re: 8.1 engine mounts?

The 8100's were made for such a short period of time, unlikely that the block mounts were changed...just a thought...

now if we were working on a ford.......
