New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

Well, today ole Whitey my 2002 Silverado W/T drove off to its new life as I picked up it's replacement a couple days ago. Love my work trucks. New on goes along with its older brother my 81 GMC. This time I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SWB regular cab W/T. Another 4.3 to chug me along. I swapped my tonneau cover over from the old truck. As I mention to another board member, seems like almost all these trucks come in the Silver Birch Metallic. I like my white, but the silver is way better than black.

Soon as this weather clears up, I'll give her a good cleaning and polishing/waxing.

Now I have 2 GMCs instead of a mixed couple

Re: New one at the homefront

Spent the mroning working on a box to hold my small floor jack, chains, and some tools in the back of the truck. I had an old toolbox my dad made when he was a fabricator in the steel mills. Made an angle bracing to keep it straight in the truck, painted the bracket and tool box. Strapped it in and I got the stuff I need without it sliding around and is fairly easy to remove if I need all the bed space.

By having weight on that corner it also helps with the typical Chevy lean.

Nice looking rig, I like the short wide trucks. They make such good drivers.

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

I agree, love these style/size trucks. This will be my 5th on in almost 30 yrs. 1992 was my first and only one I bought new. Then I had the 2002, a 1994 & 2007 (while I still owned the 2002), and now this one to finally replace the 02. Of course I had several older ones that were also SWB (70, 82, 69, 83, 64, 81) for toys.

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

-Bill what a treasure to have that box! I have my dad's old Gehl "road box" he traveled with when he was a block man. Still has his handwritten part numbers on the inside. I haven't been able to bring myself to use it for anything yet.

Looks like you've got a nice driver. I'm into the 99-06 game for the first time with a 2007 Classic. I've driven quite a few for work, but never owned one.

Looks like you've got a great start! I think GM must of made one heck of a deal on the pewter/silver/grey colors, buying in bulk!

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

Thanks Outlaw. It's a nice truck for sure. I am cleaning up a mess right now. For whatever reason, I got in the truck early Friday morning, closed the door and the glass shattered all over the place. Luckily the glass shop had on in stock and I got it replaced. Yesterday I took out interior and cleaned up all the remaining class, plus the last owners dog hair. Good thing is I got a return of $4.68 on my truck purchase price. Lots of coins in that dog hair. Working on changing out the wheels, but not sure when that will be. Tomorrow I'll finish bolting down the last seat and start driving again.

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

Bill reg cab shortys are harder and harder to come by these days. Most everybody wants extracabs at least so that's what most of the dealers stock. I too prefer the reg cab shortys but I need the extra rear seat area to haul my things in the dry. You are right. It does seem there are way more silvers out there than any other color.

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

I found a set of good alloy/aluminum wheels like I had on another truck and liked a good bit. The wheels are factory 17" from a 2004-07 Nissan Titan/Armada. Since 2 were missing the center caps, I did some digging and found the center caps from later model (2012-15) GMC Denali (18" or 20" I can't remember) are the same mounting style and diameter hub. The GMC front side is a bit thinner than the Nissan ones, so I put some o-rings I had around to make up the difference. They fit/snap-in like the original Nissan ones and with the o-rings set level. They fit with out the o-rings, but set in some. I had the wheels pulled off the old steel wheel and mounted. Too me it makes it look way better. OK now back to the broke 81.

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

Good work Bill! There are a few different styles of Nissan full-size wheels I think look great on GM pickups. It's great that there is a center cap solution!

Re: New one at the homefront-2006 GMC

^^This. Those Nissan Wheels look like they belong on your T800. Nothing odd looking about em.

Too bad there aren't aftermarket wheels that have that clean look.

Yeah they look good. Too bad the truck was a super lemon and she is now someone else's project.
