What mufflers Are you using?
I have long tube headers and chambered mufflers on my sbc 69 c10.
Thinking about going to glass packs right off the headers. What are all of you using? Last edited by LockDoc; 12-20-2018 at 11:13 PM. |

I am using Hooker cast iron headers and Flowmaster Series 40 knockoffs with pipes all the way back on the Panel Truck. They had a bad drone at about 60 mph so I added "J" pipes behind the mufflers and it sounds great now. LockDoc

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
Short pipes that are shaped like a "J". They weld into the exhaust pipes behind the muffler. They have to be a certain length depending on what RPM the drone occurs. If you type J pipe exhaust into Google it will explain them.

Wow, I had no idea.....I'm 56 years old and have never heard of that!
I didn't google it but does the tone change much? Thanks Locdoc! Blake |

Here is a chart to calculate the length you need. You can't just make them any length and expect them to work. That's why I recommend doing some reading on them. I think mine are 23.5 inches long. LockDoc

Personally, I want to make good power and be more quiet these days. I’m running Dynomax Hemi Turbo mufflers on my Jimmy and have a second set for my short step when the big block goes in. I have a set of Jones Turbo Tubes attached to the end of the headers on my AMC 360 in my CJ-5 and that’s always enough to remind me what I don’t want in my truck!

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I think you can count on a pretty annoying drone with that combination. If you like noise it should work well.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I'm running 3" spintech mufflers, x pipe, hooker headers. It's little loud for me from the inside, but I like the sound from the outside.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5CxfMAJR5U For a more mellow tone, I've heard great things about Magnaflow mufflers. |

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I put these on my bone stock with factory ram horn exaust manifolds and an H pipe with 2 1/4 inch pipes exiting behind the rear wheels to the side. Seem a touch loud til they warm up then nice mellow tone for normal driving butreally bark when accelerating hard. No drone at Highway speeds.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I would like to see the Revolver Magnaflow truck in person. You know all those muffs sound much different than on video.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I'm thinking of going with the same mufflers as my Camaro. Got a little rumble under normal driving, when you put your foot in it they have a valve that opens and it comes to life. I'm sure they'll sound different without the LS motor but kinda the best of both worlds for me.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
That Does sound great. It's a big block so will sound different than small block in tone.
Nice truck! Mark

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
Like the other guy on here with Spintech's said, they're annoyingly loud on the interior. Magnaflows with electric cut outs would be my preferred choice, next time.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
Another interesting option: BBK has a muffler you can manually adjust the sound. Like having 3 mufflers in one.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I wonder how J pipes compare to a resonator?
I'm running some kind of Turbo mufflers. Think they are Hookers. I've run turbo mufflers in just about everything I put performance exhaust on. I really like them. Much better sounding than stock, but still quiet enough for a daily driver.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
Are you trying to make everyone hate you and give yourself a migraine every time you drive it?
Anyway, what's your end goal for sound? Aggressive? Tough, but subtle? Vintage 60s-70s sound? Smooth idle and cruise, but really talks at hard throttle? Piss off your neighbors at 6:00 AM?

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
I really like my big DynoMax. Quiet and low-toned at idle, NO drone at cruise, but loud and angry when under load. Seems like the best of all worlds.

Re: What mufflers Are you using?
Ive got headers and had a set of turbo mufflers, sounded pretty good but a little on the quiet side. When I did my engine swap, i swapped out for a aet of hooker max flows. The performance is there, but still rather quiet and wimpy sounding?

Not too loud. Rumples nice at idle Barks when you step on it. Normal driving you can hear radio etc. not obnoxious. A couple videos of the sound. Quiets down after engine warmed up too https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4hRlBLtOng https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s4iNCxKl8RA
