GMC 6500 Power Steering
Hi,
I'm looking for a power steering pump for a 1975 GMC6500 with a 366 big block. Does anyone know where I can get one, or a part number? Thanks. |

Re: GMC 6500 Power Steering
Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't know how I missed Rock Auto, I checked pretty much every other site. Just eyeballing it, that looks like my pump, but I think I may try phoning Cardone directly to see if they confirm it.
Thanks again. |

Re: GMC 6500 Power Steering
Hi SweetK30,
I went directly to the Cardone web site, they don't even list this part number anymore, and when I went back to Rock Auto to order one and take my chances, I found out they don't carry them, but would rebuild mine. So I would need to pay for shipping, and being in Canada duty, both ways, which would make it quite expensive. The only issue with my pump is a leaking shaft seal, so I'm going to try and find one locally. Thanks for the help. |

Re: GMC 6500 Power Steering
The power steering pump inner part should be the same across many years of GM trucks. May just have to swap out the outer body.

Re: GMC 6500 Power Steering
Looked at the Gates catalog, the shaft seal part number is 348740. The whole kit with the seal and new O rings is 350310.

Re: GMC 6500 Power Steering
Like sweetk30 said, if it just needs sealing, then it is actually quite easy. If you check out post number 85 in my build thread you can see where I had mine blown apart while cleaning it up and putting in the seal kit. My kit came from AutoZone, they seem to have a lot more parts for medium duty trucks than a lot of other parts stores.
