Lower Steering Bearing ‘72 K10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Good Morning,
I am trying to replace the lower steering bearing on my K10 and it appears to be rusted on the shaft. Do I knock it off with a hammer? If not, what is the best method to remove the lower bearing?

When installing the new lower bearing is it pressed on with an oversized socket and hammer?

Sucks being a newbie!

Is it a 3 on the tree are auto? The lower bearing on a 3 speed 67 model is held by 2 screws at the bottom but not sure on a 72. Automatic Should have the bottom spring and retainer clip as in the picture.
If it is then yes you will have to beat it off are use a puller. I would use the puller first and if that didn't work beat it off soak it good first though before you do anything they are not press fit it should slide off.

Andy, the truck is a manual transmission without title steering. The quality photo I attached shows the bearing on the shaft...look to the right of the dishwasher.

Put it in a vise and have the bearing sitting on top but don't tighten it down just close it enough to hold the bearing on top. Then take a piece of wood and a big hammer and smack the rod end down. Spray it down good with some pentrating oil will help also. This is just me talking.
I just completely tore down a 3 speed column out of a 67 and nothing was seized up. Here is my thread on what I did.

If you look at my 67 shaft there is no bearing like yours on mine. It must be a year change but I wouldn't think it to be a press on fit though.
