I got an email the other day from a person in North Carolina somewhere who has a 77 Indy Hauler and wondered if I would be interested in buying it. After a few emails back and forth prying for info (they don't have a scanner or access to a digital camera) I got this response. It is not edited. I almost fell off my chair.

this must be the one who had that 3 door burb that was a rarity and the other 67-72 truck they had on ebay for gazillions of $$$

OMG i was reading the description thinking hmm this sounds like a nice truck and then saw the price

looks like its a little too exspencive for my blood!

No, it was from someone with a road runner email account. I think he's just delusional about the value of these trucks. Around here (Seattle area) a nice original 2wd 73-87 truck goes for 2-3000 dollars. A really nice one with work done to it (typically Goodwrench crate engine, rebuilt 700R4, some sort of paint and upholstery) will go for 4-5000. Add about 1000 for 4x4. So take that, double it for ultra low mileage and the collectability of an Indy Hauler and you still only come up with 10000. This guy never even said this truck had low mileage.

The market for these trucks won't really pick up until the 67-72 trucks become really hard to find. I think the car market is just coming to grips with the fact that some of the 67-72's are worth around 20k if really done nice. These trucks certainly aren't there yet and this guy is way out to lunch.

I had a woman in Michigan offer me a mint Gentleman Jim for 15k. It was a really nice truck, but for that money mine will be nicer than it was new.

Doooode. What are they smokin? I can buy just about any restored muscle car on the market right now for that kind of money.

The high dollar 67-72 trucks aren't going for more than 30k in most cases. I realize you are talking about a truck that will ahve some value "some day". This ain't the day, and I don't think it will ever come that a rare 77 brings 75k.

Maybe that's just his "asking price" I would see what he'll take for it in cash...:p
