original color for NP205 in 1972
Does anyone know what the original color for the np205 transfer case was in 1972?

Because New Process Gear was wholly owned by Chrysler Corp. during this era, the NP205s were painted a Mopar red color. It is a dark red, but I have no idea of the paint code or how you would get it now.

if you cant find the original color you should just paint the same color as your engine tranny it would look good

My son used some dark red paint and added black to get the color to match the original paint on the NP205.

I used red oxide rustolum and a paint brush. Its not a perfect match but its close. The Chrysler red is correct.

Would that be the same color for a 1971 NP205? I thought I read somewhere that they were also painted blue?

Should be able to still get the chrysler red a a autobody paint shop and even wallyworld... Seem's to me I saw that red in a high temp rattle can color..

here is a pic from I think a 1970 bochure. It looks grey or black here and I have heard before that they were painted grey

The 205s were all that red color. The color in the picture above looks pretty close. That brochure picture is an artists illustration, not an actual photograph of a production truck chassis.

In that picture, I don't think that t-case is a np205. I think it is a dana transfercase.

ok so this is a little off topic, but i have to ask this stupid question because google is no help on this one.
what is the shift pattern on the NP205. the guy i bought my blazer from put a shiny ball on there and i can't remember the pattern from my first one. thanks guys and sorry about the interuption on this thread. 4HI all the way back by the seat. Bump one small notch forward for 2HI. Next notch forward is neutral. Big throw forward by the dash for 4LO.

MMGOODIE, You can get a decal for your glovebox with the Xfer case shift pattern from the venders. LMC Truck has it.

my bad I looking through a bunch a brochures and thought I pulled a pic from a truck. The colors are there because in the brochure they were explaining some of the selling points.
