Laying frame on stock radius arms

So..


I installed a full step notch and as i knew would happen the trailing arm now hits the frame not allowing for it all to be used.

Knowing this ahead of time but still being hard headed i have been reading and searching for odd ball ways people have gotten around this but being hard headed i wanted to see exactly how it would sit with a ***** installed without any major modifications to frame or arms.

With the notch as it is i need 6 1-2” more for the frame to sit on the ground.

My initial idea and one i have seen done a few ways is to just do a mega notch not and extend it out to where it avoids the trailing arm all together. Won’t be a major project and would help keep things simple. it’s also not the best looking setup but would be covered by the bed and fit my budget needs.

I understand that a complete 4 link or the likes would be the best option but unless someone wants to buy one for me it’s not a option for me due to money. What i do however have is the ability to weld and plenty of time.

(I also don’t understand suspension geometry enough to attempt making my own links)

I am going to attach a picture of me holding up a template of what i am thinking. But i want to hear other ideas or things you have seen or possibly recommendations on a link setup that wouldn’t be insainly hard for the intellectually inclined fellow.

What you did with the cardboard is about your only option without doing major suspension mods...
Your wanting to go all the way to the ground ...what are your plans for the front?
Also you said you need 6-1/2" more in the rear...how much room do you have left here?...you may need to take the top up a little higher...

One way I've seen it done is get your frame on the floor and axle and suspension in place....then build your frame around the suspension...

Until you bring the front down to at least the frame is level you really cant get a measurement on how much more you need. The front looks a good 8 inches or more higher that the back so the frame is running up hill affecting your measurements. Pull the front springs and bump stop rubbers out of it and see where you are at. The front will have the lower a arms on the floor.

The only interference is the radius arms at this point.

You can take the arch angle measurements of the radius arm no matter where the frame is sitting. (Pivot point is static)

The notch itself i already know has the room to drop the frame on the ground from prior measurements while doing the z up from when the frame was level.

The front already has a 3” z will be getting 3” spindles and if i need a tad more after i will section the crossmember.

I figured this was the best route and probably going to make that next step and just cut it up..

The botch has all the room i need to lay frame as is I’m just to poor to properly utilize it.

I am however tempted to just say screw it and build the bridge for the bags how it sits and get it together and after everything else is done If i don’t like it sitting this high go and actually cut it all up ...

I just feel like that’s quitting in my a s though lol

I personally wouldn't do it but there are quite a few guys who run 4 inch blocks in the rear. It will get you to lay out with the stock suspension.

I am still going between if i want to run a 2 or 3” block.... 4 for sure is to much for me.

Is what i am looking at right now. But it’s more then i really want to spend atm.

Right now i may just notch the trailing arm (box it in and reinforce it) and do the blocks and just deal with not being as low as i want and get everything else done then get back to the rear down the road when i have more cash

I wouldn't notch the trailing arms. Check out AVS or AZProperformance. They have some really good deals on 4 link kits. You can also make the links and tabs yourself if you have the time and patience. Probably save a few bucks.

There’s plenty of free suspension geometry guides, calculators and such out there, start searching and reading. Sorry, I cleared my favorites list or I’d link some. Watch some videos or whatever if you need help there on the fab side. You can buy the same bushings that fit tubing like that kit you linked, ditto for the rod ends, and build your own.

You don’t sound enthused about making a giant notch so don’t do it. Notching the trailing arms isn’t a good idea in my opinion so don’t do it. You want to link it at some point so either build it yourself or keep stashing those pennies.
