What Front Clip to Use?
I am restoring a '55 1st seris and want to upgrade the susp. on it. I can't decide to clip it with a camaro front clip or go with a mustang II clip. What year camaro or firebirds will work. I have a '84 Firebird as a donor. Also what year rear end should I use.
Thanks, Dennis |

Ideal years are '70-'81 Camaro or Firebird.

You would be better with a mustang II. Doing this for a living i see a lot of screwed up and unsafe camaro clips.(cut a lot out also) Not to mention the mess of a volare or the pacer. The mustang II is reallly not a stang II anymore as it is more of a similar copy that will let you truck handle well and look right when done. If you do go with to stang ii go with a kit not the stock pinto frontend. With a kit you should run a 11 inch brake upgrade and one peice lower aframes with out struts. The mustang II kits are something that work fine under a truck and all the BS about them being to light for a truck are just that BS. Deside what you want to do with your truck before making desions. The 84 camaro is a strut frontend ...forget that one. I will warn you of this ....stay away from the overweight guys stuff...its the worst but the most used..maybe why it gets a bad wrap sometimes. Or you could go corvette like this one i did

Phat, what's with the "overweight guys deal"?
I've used a MII kit from a certain "fatMan" and am very satisfied with it.

I have 10+ years(100K)on my MII kit and have replaced the shocks with Bilstine and it made a whole new truck out of it. Another note find the wider kit that uses a spacer on one side of the rack IMO it makes the truck and the position of the wheels fit better.
Camaros will fit but they are much more WORK to install and you will have more time fitting up the sheetmetal and still will not have Rack and Pinion. Mustang II kits are far better IMO
