Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

I like the turbo style mufflers. Good sound. A bit loud, but not annoyingly so.

Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

I absolutely LOVE my Dynomax and have them on every big block I own. They have a subtle but deep idle. At cruise there is NO DRONE. Under power they "open up" and sound wicked. They're probably too quiet for most people but plenty loud when you stand on it, which is how I like it.

I have the selectable valve exhaust on my ZO6 Corvette and the personality of the Dynomax is almost as good.

For this, I'll say Magnaflow or Borla.

For this, Black Widow or Spin Tech

Now, you posted two different sound styles in which, you'll either get one or the other. Tell us what engine setup you have and we'll try to help you achieve the sound you're wanting. The thing to remember, what sounds good to someone else may not sound good to you and vice-versa.

I don't care as much for the Flowmaster sound anymore, but many still do. in my opinion, the Black Widows are just too loud and raspy. I've not heard a vehicle I liked them on.

I personally like the Magnaflow and Borla mufflers for their subtle idle tones, but they still bark pretty good under throttle.

Also, the type of pipes used and the way they're bent will have a huge affect on the sound. I went from muffler shop press bent aluminized pipe to stainless mandrel bent pipes using the same mufflers and the sounds were completely different.

Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

I personally don't like my Spintechs. I specifically got them, but they sounds like there are no mufflers. Terrible drone, and not a quality sound in my case. It's cool for about 5 minutes.

I'm looking to replace them either with Magnaflows, or DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers.

Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

Here is a link to the Dynomax I'm running on my 72C10 with a bone stock 350 and 2 1/4 inch dual exhausts with an H Pipe right to the back of the truck. Nide idle sound and no drone on the highway and bark/roar prettygood if you stand on it. Attached pic is where they exit the truck and both sides the same. I wanted tham right back but the overload spring shackle was interfering.

Yep, sounds good at idle from the outside. Drone is brutal inside and has a very no-muffler sounds to me. Fun for 5 minutes, then headache time.

Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

I've had flowmaster 40's on the two GTO's and the HIPO Fairlane. Like the sound and I always run full tailpipes. I am going to have a system bent up for the Blazer and will run them on that too.

Not for my taste. Of course I listened to loud rock music and loud cars all my life. They have a deep throaty sound and sound super at idle too, especially if you have some cam. The HIPO Fairlane had headers whereas the GTOs had exhaust manifolds. The key to any good sounding exhaust system is having full tail pipes. My 61 Vette has stock small oval type mufflers with tailpipes that exit behind the rear tires. It is way too quiet and the mufflers will be changed out this spring.

Dynomax on my bone stock 1972 with a 350 and I'll post to exactly which ones I have. I do agree with what DavePL said about the Dynomax mufflers.

Re: What Mufflers Are Everyone Running?

On my 71, 383 with long tube headers I had super 44s dump out the sides, it was loud but I was younger then and I liked it.
On my 70, 396 bbc, long tube , I had dynomax dump out the rear, really liked that set up.
Now on my 70, mid length , Delta 50s, dump out the rear, surprisingly pretty loud. I like this set up but if I was to do it over I would go with dynomax.
