Brake light, carb and mirrors help needed 69 c10

So firstly the drivers stop light doesn’t work on my truck. The indicator and side lights both work all connections look good etc. Is there some kind of switch that stops the brake lighting up when you’re indicating? If so where abouts is it and do I just replace or can it be fixed?

Secondly the fella I got it off said it had Edelbrock carb fitted. It doesn’t as it’s the standard Rochester Quadrajet which is a bonus! But it needs setting up and I thought while I’m at it I’d get a kit to rebuild it. Any hits, tips and tricks would be appreciated, so would a step by step guide if I’m honest! Haha

Finally my side mirrors are awful. Being in the uk I could do with seeing outta my passenger mirror and when it’s fully adjusted I can see the keen on the other side of the road. Not helpful. Anyone got an idea on good replacements?

The brake lights run through the turn signal switch. I would look there. The indicator works on both side idicating the wiring from the turn signal switch through the wiring and the bulb is good. The pass side stop light works, so that indicates the brake switch is working.

Installing an air fuel gauge makes tuning the carb a lot easier. You need to install an oxygen sensor in the exhaust. No more guess work, you can tell where it is rich or lean. I'm running a cheap narrow band setup - $20 1 wire sensor and an Autometer gauge.

Thankyou do so much Rpmerf! Proper helpful info there. I won’t be installing any sensors to the fuel/air/exhaust though, I’d rather it be as was where possible.

Might be an Edelbrock. They produced a quadrajet. If the Edelbrock tag is removed you won’t know the difference.

Nah it’s defo a Rochester, got the full number on it and a big stamp saying Rochester Quadrajet lol!
I’m looking at getting a kit to rebuild it as far as I go into it. Not a full strip down but better to have a full kit just in case.

I’m still unsure as to whether or not I need a new indicator switch. Gonna strip the column and see what’s happening (or not)

The mirrors I want the dg4’s if anyone is selling a pair and wouldn’t mind shipping to the uk. I can’t see anything else really working on it.

Do you have ethanol in your fuel? If so, check around for people who can provide you with a kit that has alcohol-proof parts. Cliff's was mentioned. That's where I get my kits. I see someone posted a book to buy. There is a lot that goes into rebuilding a carburetor well. Getting the crud out of some spots takes a little extra effort. Not difficult, just time-consuming.

No I don’t have ethanol in the fuel, should I? Ha. I have a Haynes manual for the truck which does have a basic guide. I’m not looking to totally strip it really just see how far I get comfortably! It’s more making sure it’s all in good working order and set up correctly I guess.

No, the ethanol in the fuel must be a US thing. You're better off without it, IMO. When I say "a lot", I just mean there's "a lot" more than removing and replacing the parts that the kit's exploded diagram shows, especially in terms of cleaning. Whatever manual you buy should go through all that. Not really a big deal, just be careful. If you buy from Cliff's, you will automatically get a new float, because the fuel here in the US, even before ethanol was added, could soak into them, making them heavy and causing a hard to diagnose flooding situation.

Ah the ethanol is an emissions related thing! Yeah I’m really not bothered about that. Thanks for all the info I’m still waiting on the carb kit (and a aluminum radiator actually) from the uk based supplier I’ve been buying parts from before I get it off and stripped down.
I’m looking at getting the indicator switch to hopefully solve the brake light issue.

I have started to notice that every time I get a job done on the truck another 3 or 4 turn up haha!
