If it don’t go ... chrome it!
Old hot rodders saying for you whipper-snappers. Got this from one of my local truck buddies this weekend.

That looks cool. This brings back memories. My Father has passed several years ago. I would like to share my if it don't go chrome it story. I bought my 63 Impala at age 15. I used (2) Impala's to make 1 good one by age 16. It had a 283 with power glide when I got it. I bought a set of chrome valve covers for it. My Daddy seen those and said if it won't go chrome it. Then he said Don't you (Hot Rod) that car boy. Well after He showed me how to build an engine in his Truck. He also show me how to pick out all the right parts. It was on. I bought a 70 Impala 300hp 350cid with Turbo 350/trans. I used the engine & trans from that car and built them both. When my car left the driveway and a 3 or 4 thousand pound car Squaled the tires in 2nd gear All he could do was just Grin.

When I started driving, my Dad always told me (especially when selling a car) that "An Ounce of Appearance, is worth a pound of Performance"

Re: If it don’t go ... chrome it!
I also remember "Chrome won't get you home" that us poor boys who's cars were rolling (self-built) projects used to say about the rich boys who's parents bought them new/newer stuff they slapped Cragars on.
I also remember another similar one I first heard at the first Carlisle Trucks in '96. Back then you could camp out there and I ended up setting up camp with some guys about my age with old GM trucks. We sat around the campfire while all the Reggie Youngin's cruised the grounds in their customized minis blasting their stereos. Not much ricer performance going on yet back then, just customizing and stereo. That's when I heard "If it won't go, buy a stereo" That's the second heater I've seen chromed. The other was in a supercharged Medium Green & White Cheyenne Super in the '80s that had about anything that could be removed in the interior chromed... column, e-brake, ashtray, GBD, cowl vents, and heater. It had chrome AND it could go! I always liked to chrome glovebox doors on Cheyenne Supers so it would match the instrument cluster. I'd do the ashtray and add woodgrain to complete the look. Then chrome the piece that goes under the column when it goes into the dash. Those were subtle changes that enhanced what GM already had going on... details

And then there's this.
I think the first guy to chrome a car in NASCAR did it way back in '78 with an Olds Cutlass.
