Installing starter shield / inspection plate
Pretty straight forward, one of the pieces my truck was also missing letting trash and oil leaks into the bell housing. Figured I might as well replace it while I was there working on it. So I 2 questions:
1. What color should it be painted? 2. When I install it, will it affect the starter engagement?

Re: Installing starter shield / inspection plate
Leon, thanks for the quick reply. I can get that in today then. I just discovered it was missing so I bought a new one with the clutch and bell crank rebuild pieces. Whomever was the last mechanic on this didn’t reinstall it, left off the clutchfork boot on the bellhousing, and broke one ear off of the starter too. Guess I’ll replace that too since I will be taking it out for fix the ever growing list of little things that need to be fixed. The inability or laziness of some folks continues to amaze me.

I have a friend that always pitched those and the flywheel dust cover whenever he had to take them off to work on his vehicles. I started bringing them home, so I never had to buy any.... LockDoc

That’s a good friend! I would have posted on the board, but beings I was already making a purchase a 4speedconversions, I added it to my list.
