Crap - Oil pump pickup was in pan...
So I found the oil pump pickup in the pan on the 60 and here is what else...
Looks like the motor is coming out after thinking I was done with it. Thought about just doing a crank kit, but with all the other stuff messed up in this truck, I cant take chances. The issue was - under hard braking, oil pressure went to 0. Oh and the trans should be rebuilt too....

Well the deal there is there is no engine braking in the trans so if one is out, might as well take car of both.

Re: Crap - Oil pump pickup was in pan...
Looks like it starved enough. Sad to see. I had this once on my '64 Impala. I just put an extra quart of oil in it until I could pull the engine. I took the sump screen across the street and had the neighborhood machine shop guy knurl the outside of the tube so that it stayed tight when hammered back in. I only saw the oil light on once, though, and the engine had maybe 10k miles on the rebuild.

My buddy always tack welds the tube to the pump when he's in there.

I have drilled a hole through the pump body and into the tube and threaded it for a machine screw with Loctite. At least the pickup is then removable.
