Ignition

When I removed the instrument cluster from my 67 gmc it would not start, no power to the ignition. I trailered it to the body shop and the owner did a work around which allowed the trk to be started. Now that I have it back I want to reinstall the instrument cluster, so my fear is that since the work around is still there will it do harm to the printed circuit since power to the ignition needs to go through the ammeter? How do I undo the work around? The shop owner does not remember what he did. He is very sick and not able to help. Any ideas?

Re: Ignition

What do you plan to do? Are you just looking to move it around? Check the wires on the plug that goes to the ignition switch. The fat red wire should have power. If it is not, possibly the fusible link is burnt. Is it only the ignition that doesn't have power?

I would get out the test light or the multimeter and follow power from one end to the other. Start at either the battery, starter signal, or coil. Trace it though the ignition switch (input and output), and junctions. See if other items along the way have power. Headlights and horn look like the come off the same junction as the ignition switch power.
