What is it ?
I have a used SM 465 4 speed transmission. On the driver's side at the top and front is a fitting that screws into the case (mine is broken so I don't know what it should look like). It has a 7/8 hex nut and a fine thread. At the end of the fitting is a roller ball. The top looks as if it was plastic and it had a small spring in it. Does anyone have any idea what it is ? I thought it was the fitting for the speedometer cable.

I think its a reverse light switch. Or a TCS (trasmision controlled spark) switch.

That is where your reverse light switch goes. Should be a couple of wires hanging down off the firewall that goes to it?
