AC Compressor Going Out
My AC compressor has been noisy lately but not too bad. Yesterday it is very noisy so I cut it off so not to let it lock up. Had it installed by my AC tech in June 2017. He recommended reman GM A6, which was originally on it. Has been working great since then. Going to have it replaced again. Wanting to compare pricing for another A6 or possibly a Sanden. I have seen a lot of members saying they have them. Cost may be more for Sanden since I will probably need new mounting brackets and other items as necessary. Any opinions ?

Re: AC Compressor Going Out
The local AC guy I go to recommends Sanden, but newer style parallel flow condenser will be needed and, in the case of my 454, new mounting brackets, a/c hoses, etc. He said I could keep the existing factory evaporator. So pretty much rebuild the system with a Sanden.
Alma Products says they make a new improved version of the A6 (still used on some heavy equipment) but I don't know of anyone around here still installing them, and nobody recommends rebuilt compressors. |

Re: AC Compressor Going Out
Got mine replaced, again. Decided to stay with reman GM A6 this time due to cost. I also got a 2 year warranty. Going to see how long this one will last. Next time I am going with Sanden.
Gets really cold now!

IMO the A6 was one of the most reliable compressors ever built in its era. I would still flush the system with an approved flush kit and solvent, replace the receiver drier, refill with proper amount of oil and refrigerant. should work perfect for years to come.
