Help! Attaching inner 70 grill to outer - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just got a new inner and outer grill from Frank (Pickmup). He makes a kit to put them together with stainless steel bolts. Does anyone have a diagram on how this goes together and how it goes onto the truck itself?? My original one was thrashed, and was of course riveted. Any info is appreciated. The new inner and outer are the GM "nos" parts

They look great.
You were saying they were rivted on, you mean the outter to the mounting brackets right?
The plastic inner will simply fasten to the outter. You will need to install the plastic retainers in the square holes of the outter grille and then use the square head screws to attach the inner to the outter.
You will have to drill out the orginal rivets on the old grille (if you are going to re-use the brackets). Paint them up and rivet them back on. It took some looking, but I found the correct rivits.
Not hard to do at all.
Of course if you do not want to mess with it, send the grille to me, I will give you a 100 bucks for them!

(just kidding)

Rickh- Thanks for the info. I am having trouble getting the plastic retainers into the outer. The hole seems to small. I got a few, then asked my hubby to come help. He grabbed a wooden spoon to push in the plastic retainer. THEN the handle broke and with the force he was using the handle stuck in his hand about 1-1/2 inches!!!!

I just got back from taking him to the doctor where they numbed his hand, irrigated the pucture hole, gave him a tetnis shot, and some vicadin and sent him on his way!!! OUCH!!

He is not to happy.....guess I'll be finishing this grill myself

Place the plastic retainer againest the grille, on the backside of grille place a socket that is slightly larger than the opening the retainer inserts into, then take a c-clamp and place over both the retainer and socket and tighten it. Clamp will force the retainer into the grille and the socket will keep the grille from distorting in the area around the opening as the retainer is forced in.
