Re: panel adhesive brands and quality
Can't go wrong with 3m but honestly, I have used all the big brands and they do the job.
Just so you know, this is getting more and more common with the auto manufacturers. Did you know that BMW has guidelines to splice a frame rail with out a single weld or bolt using adhesive? How about quarter panels, splice joints on the B and C pillar even, not a single weld, bonding in a backing, done deal. Here is a little post I made on my 10 year old son (now 22!) and his science project. https://www.hotrodders.com/forum/wel...ct-116090.html Brian

Re: panel adhesive brands and quality
mine is not structural. skinning a box exterior side. don't want the possible warping, grinding, smoothing, filling etc. just gonna bond it and bolt the step side fencers on after.
I did take a look at your post before. kinda amazing how strong the stuff is on a straight pull anyway. not sure if it would peel if not drawing straight on. that said though, a spot weld would tear off given that same apples to apples comparison. when the factory does the spot weld and bonding combination they must use some sorta special bonding compound so the spot weld still works but the adhesive doesn't burn. I wondered that the last time I "disassembled" a floor at a seam. thanks for the info. prolly uise the 3m stuff because the other stuff is almost the same price anyway. I will see what the bodyshop supply place tries to promote and go from there. how was the move, are you there yet? truck assembled? nothing like a move to get you going on the assembly ahead of other important things in life eh? |

I don't think so Mongocanfly, I don't have my drivers license yet. But I have been here 20 days or so.

Good idea to change your plates asap. In the Northwest there is huge anti-Californian sentiment as wealthy transplants have driven real estate prices out of the reach of most locals.

Yep, believe me, when I bought my house I said it, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE VALUE GO UP ON IT! Yet it has, and I HATE that. It's like I have said to everyone I have met, I want to come to this wonderful place to see it as it is, not change it. But alas, there are a lot of Californians coming here and it is changing because of this. I purposely bought an old house so I wouldn't be adding to the home building, but many others aren't seeing it that way and buying new homes. All I know is everyone I speak with and I get along like we are old friends. A guy was passing my house the other day and saw my truck in the garage and pulled over to talk to me about it. Early in the conversation I told him I had been here less than a month and I was from California. We talked for no kidding, about an hour and a half or more! We were like old friends, so I don't have a worry about it if we can talk. I just don't want others to see me as some evil POS when they don't even know me. Brian

Yes, I know....sorry One last comment and then no more. If /when I move, those plates will be taken off my cars as soon as I cross the CA border. I'll worry about tickets later.
