stereo question
I have a alpine cd player and a 200 watt amp. My question is I have some wine or hiss in it.
What type of noise reducer should I use and on what power wire? Thanks

i would think a filter on the actual power wire would be where to put it, i dont know about what kind of filter.

I think you should just fix the problem rather than hide it. You have a bad ground.

Anything electronic will cause that kind of noise, you can buy alternator whine reducers at Radio Shack pretty cheap

What ground?? Also if I filter the power wire should it be on the amp or head unit? Also on the constant power or the switched power?

The ground on either your radio or your amp, if you are using one. Motor noise is almost always caused by a poor ground somewhere. Also, if you are running an amp, make sure your rca's are running on the opposite side of the vehicle than your power wire. If they are running side by side this can cause noise too.

I've never used any filters. Did you remove all the paint from around where they are grounded? Maybe you need to ground them elsewhere.

Try a few things with the ground. If you have the amp screwed to metal of the truck pull the screws out and hold the amp off of all metal. Make sure it is all still hooked up and see if the sound goes away. If it does use a few plastic gromets and space the amp off the metal area just a 1/8" or so. If that is not it try a small length of wire and hold one end to the radio chassis and touch the other to the exposed jacket part of the RCA or even to a grounded part of the truck. Try this at the amp also. Grounds are very critical as said and alot of people never hook the ground wire up securely and the unit will pull a ground from the antenna wire instead. This could be a reason you are getting fuzzy reception also. Let us know!!

Its your ground, OR you could have the power near other electrical devices that are causing interference. Either way, reground it to the cab floor (I just reground my amp the other day and it got a MUCH better signal and sound) and trace the power wires to see if there is something that might cause such interference.

I am currently working on my grounds.
Couple of questions. My front speakers are run off my head unit and rears off a depth charge 200 watt amp With the amp rcas unplugged my front speakers with my head on them make no noise at all. With the amp plugged up the rears make the nosie even at zero volume. Should I assume then it is the amp and concentrate on it?

Like the others have said, its your ground. I just installed a radio in my friends 81 C/10 and he has the same issue when he grounded it to a seat bolt. I grounded it to the seat belt bolt and problem solved.

Well I have grounded amp to seat belt blot same result.
In reference to my above question if it does not come out of my front speakers does that mean it is the amp?

It could just be the amp. Is it a "cheap" amp? I had this problem once and it was the amp, it was a cheapy.

It is a depth charge amp dont think it is cheap.
Anyone ever use a ground loop isolator? Something about when a stereo is grounded at a different place than the amp you can get a ground loop? Unpluged the atenna that did not help so it is not coming from attena. Did all the sugestions so far amp is now grounded to seat belt stereo to firewall.

Also just eliminated the amp by muting it with a set of dead short rca plugs with the mute plugs in no whine. So either it is the rca wires a ground loop or the head unit not grounded.
