Steering column gurus - convert auto column to 3ott?

Good morning! I have a '72 GMC I'm converting from Auto to 3ott - but the truck has a nicely patina'd original blue steering column I would prefer to keep.

That said, is it possible to swap the guts out of a 3ott column into the auto column? I have a donor column which is functional but the wrong color. Or is it so much work as to not be worthwhile?

Planning to disassemble and recondition whatever column I end up using, so not worried about having to do that. Never taken one apart further than replacing a turn signal switch, but always ready to learn!

Thanks in advance

Re: Steering column gurus - convert auto column to 3ott?

I have a 3OTT blue steering column from my 70 C10 that I'll be getting rid of at some point in the future. Know it's a different year, but I think that can be remedied pretty easily. I'm doing the exact opposite swap.

This is also a viable path of the condition and color are right, I will send you a message.
