Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
I didn't see it on TV.... Could it be a C10 converted to 4WD?

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
Just flipped on the tv and watched Barrett Jackson for just a bit. Saw a super nice 70 c10 go for $100k. Never thought I’d see that level of money for even the nice customs.

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
That 100g was big money for a C10. It was nice and all but it struck at least 2 people as their perfect truck making them willing to pay up for it. And then there was one. The nicer stock will go across today.

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
We always used the term "More money than sense" and now we use the term "Barrett Jackson". I'll never let a rich fool establish the value of anything I buy.
I think they labeled that K/10 as a C/10 because that seems to be the standard all these new to these trucks people established. All the '60-'86s (even '87s) get referred to as C/10s rather than Chevy Trucks. I guess it's because most get initiated to the trucks through taking notice of and liking the custom shortbeds they see on TV and the internet. There's the C/10 club, "But mines a shortbed GMC C1500. Can I join?". And there's the C/10 Nationals, "Man I wish they'd come up with the K/20 Nationals so I can show my truck, too". Did they ever call the truck a K/10 after correcting themselves?

Barrett Jackson...and the rest.....Back in the day when the hard working blue collar worker couldn't afford a performance car, he did with-out....and thought some day I'll save my $$$ & buy one.....Now years later after he paid his mortgage, got his kid or two through college, and built up a stash....Guess what he still can't afford it.....Thanks to the Barrett Jacksons of the world......

The upper middle class kids who had the new muscle cars sold them when the gas crisis came along in '73 and because they were buying houses and having kids. And we bought their stuff for cheap. Then they moved up in their careers, did a few move-up home purchases, kids into college, and bought a turn-key of what they used to have to stick behind that third garage door on their yuppy castle. Home equity loans, cashing in investments, etc. The money got easy to get and easy to go. Expanded TV programming and internet spread the interest and what to do but fly out to a B-J auction and outdo the other guys at the office.

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
I'm not sure what is inflating these trucks to the hundred thousand value? You're talking about an old pick-up truck with the same or more value of a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 or L78! There isn't any way a truck out values a very rare muscle car!

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
My former 70 shortbed 4X4 had C10 emblems on it. Never saw a K10 emblem only K5's for the Blazer. K 10 or K20 etc. was just what the 4WD model was referred to because of the VIN - KE or KS depending on V8 or 6 in the case of Chevys. Maybe that is what confused the announcers? I can't see whether it had the correct C10 emblems on it.

As far as prices go, it's called being invaded by the "buy-ins". People who have money and that's about all. They need to see what other people do to get an idea of what they like, then follow along with their wallets that have paid their way through not having to know the true value of anything. The people taking their money certainly don't feel obligated to educate them.

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
The guy does get to me . There are s lot of times I roll my eyes because he says some factoid that well is incorrect. Specially about the lesser known cars.
But in reality the prices paid are by guys and gals that most likely would have to have a car built for them . And wait a year for it. So they are willing to pay a premium to get the vehicle they want ready to drive. We tend to forget that there are people out there than enjoy old cars and trucks who can't or won't turn a wrench. One of the guys in my club is an orthopedic surgeon in NYC does alot with the local pro teams baseball football ect. He really can't work on cars anymore his practice is too important to his livelihood. He used to turn wrenches with his dad years ago. So he buys them done. So when I see a car go for 75k that I or we on this board could have done for 40k I dont even think that guy paid to much . Because most of us dont take into consideration that we never count our labor . If we did most of us are upside down on the project. But we do it because we love to work on classics.

Re: Barrett Jack son (Wait that's not a)
And those non-wrenchers are buy-ins. It's simple, they use their large bank account to join in on the working man's interest and price him out of it. I've spent my life owning old vehicles. Not until more recently, once the buy-ins came along, did we ever expect to cover our cost. You expected to come out upside down. These aren't investments, they are vehicles we work on so we can drive them because we love them. Also, during all that time I spent with old cars you couldn't pay most garages to work on your old stuff... rusted bolts, parts hard to find, and many didn't know what was what on anything but late-models. It's been over 30 years since Chevy has used carburetors. Body shops did no rust repair and didn't mess with older vehicles. You HAD TO work on your own stuff if you wanted an old car. And you had to learn how to find parts. Insurance companies wouldn't offer full coverage on anything not listed in KBB, which only went back 5 years. In fact, I had insurance companies tell me they wouldn't do liability because old cars are too much risk... old brakes, bearings, and such. Generally considered anything over 10 years old junk when the classic car is actually better maintained than the newer car the agent drove. All this changed when the money people (buy-ins) "discovered" classic cars. The rich keep getting richer, so the prices continue to climb. If I could pay $100k for a truck and think nothing of it I'd buy an airplane. Not just a different version of what everyone drives to work. Of course, this buyer probably already has an airplane or two.
