Question on storage for the winter - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I put my pride and joy, 1968 International Harvester Travelall in storage today for the winter. It's actually in a garage at another location other than my house. My question is since it is going to sit there all winter, do I need to put it up on jacks? Anything else I need to do? I didn't have much time to work on her this year as I was busy with another 68.

Check the anti freeze and disconnect the battery. Fresh oil change would be nice.That's it.

Put some Stabil in the fuel tank and run it for awhile to get it to the carb. If stored in an unheated garage, fill the tank. Put a battery tender on the battery and bring it home to keep it from freezing. Do something to keep the critters out. traps around it dryer sheets inside it etc. - there are lots of home remedies.

I use Sta-bil and ethanol free gas.

I just put my 71 gmc away INSIDE. for the first time this year. usaly it sits biside the Shed. I used moth ball to try to keep mice out. And removed anything that a mouse could make a nest out of like carboard, paper, any cloth. (Besides the seat.) And just a general cleaning. Figurers crossed they don't mess with it.

Put stabil in all my vehicles when storing, always run it a bit to get it into carb. I use a tender on one of my cars stored by the house, just leave the battery in, install, plug in and cover car. I usually go away for the winter and it fires right up in the spring. One important thing to do is fold down the visors and swing them towards the door a little. It's a favorite place for the mice to sit and eat holes in your headliner. Don't make it easy for them. I always drive my vehicles tires up on a small piece of plywood, keeps them from freezing to the floor or sitting in the dirt depending as to where you store it. I use dryer sheets in my cars and have had good luck with them, mine usually sit for a good 6 months. All of my vehicles are stored inside, I don't leave anything out in the elements if at all possible.

All good info. I just take the battery out. And put in a heated shed and check it once and a while. Stabi is a good idea. I have some. I usaly start it once or twice. When it's a nicer day out to burn some of the old gas in the carb. I put 91 octain it it before storage. 91 is the highest I can get around here

I would put a vehicle on jack stands if it had bias tires on it. Otherwise no.

Pictures from April 20, 2018, in Wisconsin. Not going to drive my truck in this.

In addition to the things already mentioned...
When I store and secure my vehicles in Wisconsin for the winter I over inflate the tires to about 45#-50#. When I store them in Arizona for the summer (120* in the garage?), I put them on blocks as the local tire store recommended.
