Clamshell mount
Working on a 1972 c10 frame with sbc and a little confused about the engine mounts. Did the 72 come with clamshells or the old style. Or both. Thanks.

I have the whole set that I took off a 67 frame with a small block in it , They used them with Hedman headers . .

Re: Clamshell mount
You should be able to get all the parts from a 73-87 truck. 91 for 1/2 ton 2x4 Surubans.

Re: Clamshell mount
Anyone know where i can find a set of the 73-87 frame perches. I assume they need to be from a c10 and not a car.

Re: Clamshell mount
72 small blocks were same as 67-71, for small blocks.
72 big blocks got the clam shell type mounts. The mounts use frame brackets made for 72 big block clamshell moouts, only. The 73-87 frame brackets that all use clam shell mounts are different from the 72 big block frame brackets. I've read ere about others using 73-87 brackets/clem shell mouts. takes a little fabrication, nothing terribly difficult... Where to get them? There's kajillions of square bodies in salvage yards... |

Re: Clamshell mount
What's the benefit to these "clamshell" mounts? I'm kind of a noob at the 73-on trucks...

Re: Clamshell mount
Quote:
The old mounts are two piece of steel with a piece of rubber between them, essentially bonded to both pieces of steel. Age, heat and the engines movement eventually allow one of the pieces of steel to come unbonded. It's usually the drivers side. You can feel the engine lift off the mount, then slam back down when this happens. Sometimes you lose the rubber, then you really know what's up. When you lose the rubber the fan usually gets into the fan shroud. This can't happen with the clam shell mount... |

Re: Clamshell mount
when the mounts broke and the engine lifted up the throttles could stick..probably the reason they went to a throttle cable instead of regular linkage....the factory recall was a halfast piece of cable to limit travel...so if you've ever seen one of these cable setups and wondered wtf....

Re: Clamshell mount
Will the small blocks work and sit in the same stock position they are supposed to be in if I used the 72 big block clam shell mounts with a 327? It's a 67 frame so if anyone has done this will I need to shave the frame sides?
