Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

It's been a year and a half, but hopefully the trucks will be picked up today from my brother's in Las Vegas enroute to my place upstate New York.

It started with the orange '69 C20, but then I fell in love with the 67/68 front-end, then came the '68 C20 Utility, and while searching I stumbled on a '68 C10 50th. I'll be passing the '69 to my older brother (here in NY) so I'll have the two '68's.
I really wasn't going to focus on the '68 Utility (an original 396 4sp) but I was just out west getting the trucks ready for shipping and the darn thing runs perfect (just have to remember NO syncros into 1st ). I drove it all over while in Vegas, even took a drive out to Red Rock Canyon . Very cool truck and I am simply amazed at how well the 396 runs. Other than a tad of smoke at startup (likely valve seals), it runs smooth, quiet and no smoke, ...unreal.

So, yes, I'm a bit excited, ...can't wait to get them home in the garage...
Photos of the trucks below, but I am hoping to have a few shots loaded on the carrier later today (fingers crossed )

What's your brother going to do with all that space?
Glad to see them heading east

No doubt, he will be glad to see them go . Heck, we almost were going to load up his 71 too, but it will stay behind. I think he'll sell it, a rust free 71 (292, 4sp longbed) maybe I should post it up here for him.

Re: Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

You mean to tell me you're having 3 Arizona rust free jewels delivered directly to your house in the rusty northeast? Did Christmas come early up there?!

I'd give my one good eye for the 68 utility.

Excited would be an under statement....

Re: Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

Us guys in the west have it easy that’s for sure. Nice batch of trucks! When I lived in Virginia I hardly ever saw anything older than an 80’s square body. Out here in the desert I regularly still see stuff from the 40’s still on the road. 67-72s are still quite plentiful.

Re: Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

The trucks are there .....for now.
I've had a couple 1st Gen Camaros shipped back east, could always find one here or there, but they have all but disappeared. The ones I knew of are long gone. I still know of a couple 'sitting', but not nearly as many.
The trucks though, (at least for the near future) do seem plentiful out there.
On this last trip (was there from Oct 17th thru Nov 1st) I drove from Las Vegas, NV.....through Flagstaff, Winslow, Albequerque, Santa Fe, as far east as Las Vegas, NM. Then south Las Lunas, back up to Williams then down through Jerome, Prescott, Lake Havasu, and back up through Kingman.
A lot of miles driving around, but I love the southwest. It is so cool seeing these old 'relics' preserved in the desert .
So, ...yes 57TaskForce, ...you guys do have it made out there : ) ,. ..and you get to drive them year round

That is a pretty good road trip for sure. I lived in abq and los lunas both about 10 years ago. If you ever come back and make it a little further north toward Farmington or Durango CO hit me up. I know some good breakfast/lunch places, it’s hard to beat real New Mexican food for sure.

Re: Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

Kevin, was wondering what it cost to ship your 3 trucks if that question is not too personal?
I shipped a 72 lb from Napa Valley Ca to Kentucky last spring and paid $1800.
They said that there was a glut of cars waiting to leave Ca so the price was higher,
else you would wait forever finding a transporter to take cheaper price.

Thinking maybe you saved some $ due to volume discount ?

Love your 3 new kids, by the way.

I spent the night in Farmington at the fairgrounds campground last spring. Did I miss a meal?

My wife is Navajo so it’s nice for her to be close to her culture and it’s cool for me to be a part of it as well. We lived in Virginia for a while before we came back to New Mexico. We decided we wanted our kids to know both sides of who they are. The white side of them is easy to find almost anywhere but there Navajo culture, not so much.
Every time I get back to the mountains of VA I feel very much at home and it is a happy time, until I start to drive anywhere and then I instantly remember how much the traffic sucks and how expensive everything has gotten out there. I love the wide open space and freedom of the west. Appalachia will always be a part of me but I’m quite happy where I’m at as well.

Yes sir there’s some decent food not far from there. My shop is about 5 miles from the fairgrounds.

I’ve run 67-72 parts back to virginia several times. I’m always hunting for stuff for someone back there it seems. My family all still lives there I’m the lone wolf to see the light so far. I wouldn’t move back to the east coast unless I had to, and I’m from there.

My first trip out west was this summer. Saw so many cool old rigs on the road. Grew up in the hudson valley, lot of rot boxes with chevy emblems unfortunately.

Where is the update? Are they safe and tucked in their new home? Do they have garage doors to protect them?

Re: Trucks Heading east, hopefully today :)

A bit of a delayed update here, but the trucks were picked up in Las Vegas on Tuesday November 5th, ..........and arrived in New York on Friday the 8th!

With that said, there is a new dent in the left fender of the Utility truck

The shipper has acknowledged it and said they will cover, but we're still working through the details. It could be worse, but it sucks since the truck literally has no dents (or rust) anywhere else.
