Rear mounts needed?
I have a 1969 C10 that we are switching from Inline 6 to V8. I had a question on the manual tranny bell housing.
Do I need the bell housing with the rear mount pads? I have seen aluminum bell housings that do not have that mounting surface. The tranny is a Saginaw 4 speed out of my friend's 1969 Camaro. Thanks ahead of time for your help! war |

Re: Rear mounts needed?
Use the bellhousing that came with the six or use a bell that has no ears for mounts.
Each choice needs different things. Your six cylinder bell may have a larger hole that the trans bearing retainer fits into. Your trans might have a smaller retainer and you’ll need a spacer ring. If you use a bell with no ears(mounts) you’ll need a crossmember at the back of the trans and maybe need to remove your existing crossmember. You need to measure the big hole in the bell and compare it to the bearing retainer size. Some bell’s were 4 7/8 inches or 5 1/8 inches. Some bearing retainers were either measurement too. The bearing retainer is the part that centres the trans to the bellhousing. |
