61-63 hubcaps
Has anyone tried converting clip style hubcaps to work on nub style wheels. Is it possible to do?

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
I'm thinking a spring that goes around the perimeter replacing the inner diameter piece would work. Never tried it.

I can’t picture the spring idea.

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
Or maybe some 1/8 to 1/4 inch rod bent in a circle , fitted inside once the clip ring is removed and edge of hubcap is then rolled over the rod and tacked in place.
Have to see if the clip cap fits well in the center of a nub wheel , might be possible to just ad clips to the rim. What exact rim are you wanting to use Tchevs ?

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
Well I had bought some 16” wheels from older trucks because my clip style hub caps work on those wheels but those wheels won’t work with disc brakes and tires for those wheels are very expensive. I picked up a set of the six lugs that come on 71-72 k5 or k10 that work with the disc brakes. Now I’m stuck with finding caps to fit the wheels. So far the ones I have found have been beat up and expensive. I have two sets of the clip style that are decent and that’s why I was asking the question. I’ll try to get pictures tomorrow. The outside diameter of clip style and nub style is the same so I was hoping someone had tried it before that can say yes or no, that way I don’t ruin a cap trying it myself.

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
Adding clips to the nub wheels won’t work. The outside diameter of both caps is the same so the outer circle of a nub wheel is smaller than the clip wheel.

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
I think I have seen people cut the center ring out of the clip style cap then pop it over the nubs like a normal hubcap before. I probably wouldn't attempt it myself and just buy the caps for a nub wheel but I guess its an option if you really want to use your old caps.
I have also seen people use VW hubcap clips before since they are available new so you dont have to feel bad modifying them but not sure if they would work in this combination, maybe another one to look at would be fj40 clips? they are also available new. |

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
The nub style wheel has a different shape than the clip style so the clip style hubcap would not sit all the way in if I got those ve clips. I bought the caps off 60-66 so I don’t have to cut these up anymore.
60-66 I got the caps last weekend, thank you. Last edited by tchevs; 12-20-2019 at 09:52 AM. Reason: Misspell |

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
Are you stuck with the clip style caps now?

Re: 61-63 hubcaps
I think I am, I’ll use them down the road, hopefully. It seems like everyone that I meet that’s in to these trucks got stuck with some virus of owning more than one.
