what next

so I finally get my engine dialed in and running great and on the way to the store tonight either the rear end (which I already replaced, how you blow out a dana 60 is beyond me let alone two of them!) or the tranny went out, I pulled into the parking lot and then nothing, it would not move in any gear at all, just rev'ed
I thought "yup, tranny" but I noticed the driver side back wheel was sticking out about 5 inches more than it normally does and seemed loose so I don't which it is. either way I'm f**ked, I barely have enough money right now to pay my rent and bills let alone buy a new rear end or tranny.

I'm just about at the end of my rope here, I've put enough money into this truck to buy three trucks, WTF???

just needed to vent

is that an 8 lug (full floating) dana 60? or a 6 lug (semi floating)?

if its the 8 lug and the wheel is sticking out farther...then I have no idea. I have only heard of things like that happening on c-clip (semifloat) axles. did the lugs break? maybe the axleshaft?

It sounds like a broke axle to me.
It should be an esy fix.
Out with the old and in with a replacement.

I am not a rear-end expert by any means but I had this happen to me on an old 57 Napco I had. The bad thng for me is when I applied the brakes the pedal went to the floor due to the fact that the drum was out beyond the shoes.
I was in 5 o'clock rush hour traffic with no gears and no brakes.

I went to a salvage yard and got an axle and was good to go in no time.

i did that once on my 72 1/2 ton, it ended up being the c clip like 1969gmc stated. I just slid the axle back in and backed it up on a trailer, got it back to the shop and put a new one in. it didn't do any damange to anything, i just had to fish the pieces of the clip out of the rearend and it was fine.

Good luck

I snapped the pin in half that goes through the spider gears in my old 66 Chevelle. If you want to make sure the tranny is still good, have a buddy put the truck in gear while running. If the driveshaft is turning but the truck doesn't move, it's definately the rearend (which would be my first guess anyhow do to the wheel sticking out)

3/4 ton rearends have a retainer plate on the ouside end of the axle housing to hold in the outer bearing. The bearing may have failed and worked it's way thru the reainer, or the retainer itself let go. It may be a very simple, inexpensive repair. Just pull the brake drum off, and see what is going on at the retainer. If all looks good, then I would also suspect a broken axle. Let me know if i can help monetarily..God knows I spend enough on parts I won't use for a year. If a few guy's sent you a PMO for $10.00 each, you should be able to get her on the road again. This is NO JOKE dion...I hate to see people in your position, and will help if you want!

Hey, class of 69 might be on to something. We can start the "save dion's truck fund" If all of us sent dion a pmo for 1 or 2 dollars, he would have as much as he is asking for his truck. We really should start this.

Heck i'd pitch in $2
Dion seems to love his truck....and i would hate to see him sell it and regret it a few months down the road.

Now how about a 200R4 tranny fund for me

well good news guys, it was just the clip, put a new one in and all was good again.

I just want to you guys to know how much I appreciate the offer to help, that was very cool of you. I still might have to sell the truck but I'm going to try and make it through these hard times the best I can, things should get better.

thanks again!

Been thinkin'

Dion,

Sometimes we have to be pro-active in the “What goes around comes around” cycle. I’ve had super nice people work on my truck, and ask for nothing in return. I don’t know why I’ve been lucky like that. I just know that if I try… I can help someone else.

Just had to add that, for what it's worth.
