Internally Regulated Alternator for a 66 with a L31 Swap options?

Im replacing the wiring harness in my 66 as part of the rebuild and also swapping my 350 out for an L31 vortec. The guy at American aAuto wire mentioned that I will need to replace my alternator with an Internally Regulated Alternator for the harness setup here.

I would like to keep with the v style pulley and reuse components from my 350. Anyone ever dealt with this an know what alternator I should buy?

I have an L31 in my 66 and have done the one wire setup. I'll see if I have it written down what one I used. It may have the part number tag on it, I'll look. You can change the pulley also on these. I used a long water pump, the factory left hand side alternator mounts and power steering setup all from a 1975 small block.

All kinds of info here on swapping to a 12SI (3 wire):
http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...elcoremy.shtml

There is a list of part numbers for different amperages and clocks. I converted my 70. Sill uses the V belt setup.

Re: Internally Regulated Alternator for a 66 with a L31 Swap options?

thanks guys, I also called American Autowire and asked for a model year type that would work and since I have the L31 and will add AC he said that a 1980 Camaro would be fine for the v style pulleys with a long water pump.

I went to Rockauto and saw a few new AC Delcos and there were 2 listed
This one had a caution listed that I might need to change out the pulley...didnt understand why. Maybe it doesnt come with a pulley since I didnt see any pulley specs? Its $38 plus shipping.

Then there was this one that didnt have the caution and did have pulley specs for $80 plus shipping.

I'd get a cs130 from an 89 Pontiac safari and get an adapter plug to hook the alternator up to the new harness.
