Re: Is it just me???

When I was a teenager I would laugh when my uncle would say that we needed to tie a
Bull Durham sack with corn seed in it to each of my grandfather's crescent wrenches he carried in the tool box on his tractor because planted so many in the fields. Now I spend more time hunting for tools than I do using them.

Re: Is it just me???

Years ago when I worked part time in a shop in Texas while I was going to college in he mornings I kept a TV tray in my stall that I set every tool I was using on and never set them down on the car. I have the removable tin tool tray out of an old tool box I bought at a yard sale that I try to keep tools I use in now. Either helps a lot if you put the tools back on them when you set the tool down.

No, I have to look for them where I worked on my E39 BMW last. I have got in the car and driven to the hardware to buy a replacement though.

That is probably one of the signs of "being older" you give up looking and run to town to get a replacement tool to replace the one you can't find. I found out that the local pawn shop has a bucket of end wrenches under one of the display counters that are dirt cheap but quiet often the wrench I need. That and a nice guy has a little second hand store over on the other side of town and has a bin full of odd and end tools that I dig though on a regular basis.

Re: Is it just me???

I remember growing up we had a german shepard dog. she was my best friend and was always excited when I arrived home again. I was always fixing a car, snowmobile, dunebuggy, motorcycle or SOMETHING outside in the yard. the dog was always playing around near me trying to get me interested in throwing a ball or tugging a rope. i would lose tools and not be able to find them ANYWHERE. that is, until I mowed the lawn. the dog would take them and "relocate" them for me. made a heck of a whang going through the mower though. i think I still have a couple of those el cheapo deluxe "first wrench" tools in my collection. some have bigger war wounds than others.

Re: Is it just me???

yup, didn't work though....
my buddy has a rescue dog for finding trapped people in collapses etc. if you play fetch he will happily get the ball and bring it back, about 4 ft short of your spot so you reluctantly step forward for the ball, and it goes all over again. pretty soon you are across the field and you don't realize it.

Re: Is it just me???

I got so tired several years ago looking for dropped nuts and bolts that I bought a rolling nail magnet. On this build all my fasteners are stainless, back to square one.
