dash A/C center vent install help....
Got a new chrome center dash A/C vent for my 1970 truck. But didn't have the studs to install. So I got the studs friday, and can't figure it out. The studs are threaded, but the dash A/C vent is not. I know it goes into the plastic tube in the dash, but how do I put the studs in? Do I have to tap the holes or is there another piece I'm missing.
Help..... |

Re: dash A/C center vent install help....
My center dash vent is threaded to fit the studs. I didn't get an aftermarket one, I bought a used one off the parts board here on the forum. Here is a picture from member Beelzeburb:

The studs should go all the way through the black plastic tube part and then the nuts.
Outer chrome piece with studs then dash then gasket then black plastic then nuts to hold it all together.

It's been a few years, but I think I had the same issue as you. Aftermarket chrome center vent without threaded holes for the studs. They did need to be tapped, although I may have just tapped them with the bolts. Definitely safest bet would be to use a real tap.

Use a 1/4 X 20 tap, and do it with the tap handle. I used a little bit of oil on the tap.
