Roll pan install

Hey Guys,

I’m in the process of installing a roll pan on my 65, but scratching my head because the flare on the bottom of the roll pan seems too wide to fit between the rear bed corners when I test fit. Can anyone confirm?

Roll pan length/ top: 66
Truck gap/ top: 67
Roll pan length /bottom: 68
Truck gap bottom: 67 1/2 (being generous)

I haven’t pulled off the tailgate yet, but before I cut the cut the pan and re weld want to make sure my bed corners are in the right spot because the drivers rear had some damage on it. However it looks generally straight.

Hey Dave,
Thanks a ton for the help! I knew one of my corners was dented but didn’t think it was off by an entire inch, ha.

I may end up cutting this pan in the middle and trying to butt weld it, although my skills are not too spectacular. Otherwise, I was thinking of cutting it at the side and welding one corner on the truck then lap welding + putty-ing the other side over it.

Any tips on which might be the better option? My biggest fear is cutting too short with the butt weld since the bottom is flared.

I would just trim one end to fit your bed. Just take your time and go slow, a little at a time, test fit, grind/sand some more until it fits good.

Thanks Captain. I’ll give that a shot. If I figure it out, I’ll post up some pics.

Thanks again for all the help on this. here is an update on how the roll pan.I ended up cutting about one whole inch out of the pan, but I think it came out ok for my expectations and lack of welding skill haha.
