Since the weather turned cold, I developed a slight coolant leak. It made itself obvious the other day. Problem is that when I bought the truck, the heat/a.c. system was installed and I'm having some trouble identifying the manufacturer or figuring out a replacement part. The hoses do say Parker on them, but searching that didn't give me a result w/ this part. Heater core doesn't have a name on it that I can see. I can snap more pics.
I can take more pics, but looks like the other side of the valve has a control module(?) on it. (Motor is a standard sbc/350)
Anyone here have any ideas?

Although I guess I would need the one w/ the electric servo. Which is, of course, 3x the price

Actually...while it's up here; When changing it out, is simply capping each line sufficient? any air bubbles should work their way out during normal operation, right? Or will I need to run it w/ the heater on, radiator cap off and burp it as if I was doing a coolant change?

Parker is just a brand of high quality hose and fittings that is normally associated with hydraulic hose but they do show heater hose.

That looks to be a bypass style valve that while shutting off the flow to the heater keeps the coolant circulating though the heater hose. Important for a couple of engines that we as a group use quite often but the exact ones slip my mind.

I just changed the heater valve in my 49 about 3 months ago. I have the manual and it was an easy fix and the valve was only $38 bucks if memory serves me correct from oldairproducts.com. I drained the coolant system when I changed mine.

Yup. Mine was leaking in the same place. I'd always have a puddle of anti freeze on the garage floor.

I installed that same oldair bypass valve in my 49 when I upgraded to a Harrison Deluxe fresh air heater. The plan is to replace it with a Ranco valve sometime in the future but it's working so well I'm in no hurry to find and restore one. I got mine off of amazon.

So do you guys think there's a better replacement that I should consider? Since I have the electronic servo controlled valve, it's $115 from OldAir. At that price, if theres a higher quality option, I'll consider that instead. Or should I just stick w/ the OldAir option...

I'm not sure if there are motor operated or not , but I do know they make the cable version...in brass...instead of plastic

As luck would have it, I also noticed I have a refrigerant leak. You can actually see it in the picture above if you look closely at the hose at the very top of the picture where the crimped fitting attaches. Who decided to make refrigerant the same color as coolant?! Wouldn't blue, or something have been a better choice? lol So tempted to dump the a/c system

You sure that's not where the anti freeze from the valve may have puked a little and got it on the AC line? Just a thought. Clean it off real good and run it to check and see for sure.

I thought the same thing. Took one of those uv flashlights to it, and it lit up. So my understanding is the dye in the refrigerant will glow, while coolant does not.

There are some valves that are servo controlled that work similar but are bulkier.

Yea for some reason it doesn't pop up in the heater valve section unless you search for it....

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
