C42 Deluxe Air Heater

In my 67 GMC I noticed this C42 option on the SPID, wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what the difference is between this option and the standard equipment. There is nothing obvious when sitting in the cab, no extra settings etc on the controls.

A search of the forums tells me that some people think that in 1967 a defrost heater was still novel enough that it warranted an inclusion on the SPID, but I am skeptical of that. If it is simply a heavy duty version of the standard equipment I wonder if it is a bigger/better fan, heater core, or what.

Re: C42 Deluxe Air Heater

Heaters used to be optional equipment equipment on cars and trucks. They became standard on GM cars (I believe 1962) before trucks.

Attached is a copy of a page from the 1967 Chevy truck info kit available here https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/. This page dated February, 1967, and the 1968 info kit saying the heater is standard, suggests that heaters may have become standard on the trucks sometime during the 1967 model year after February.

Re: C42 Deluxe Air Heater

The first gen c/k trucks had a standard heater with the blower fan inside the cab and a deluxe heater with the blower fan under the hood.

I think the use of 'deluxe' heater naming was just to say that the noisy blower was under the hood. A carry over from the earlier trucks
