Cab & Chassis Dually rear end . How to Identify
Hey I’m looking for a cab and chassis dually rear end , the dually rear that rear wheels do NOT stick out wider than the front.
If I find one in a salvage yard already removed , how can I identify it ??? Is there a number on them I should look for or an exact width ? Thank you guys . Last edited by jondancer; 04-07-2020 at 12:24 PM. Reason: Spelling |

A pre-98 Dually hub/brake backing plate w/a minimal gap to the leaf spring perch on the axle tube is a give-away. You need to know the distance between the perch-pad & drum backing plate for a standard dually housing & that will help spot one w/less gap (indicating a shorter housing).

This is a Squarebody 14bolt C&C housing. Notice how close the backing plate is to the leaf spring centerline:

Now here's an image of a Squarebody housing that's NOT a C&C housing.
Notice how much more gap there is between the drum backing plate & the center of the leaf spring mount:

Re: Cab & Chassis Dually rear end . How to Identify
yep hardly get a man size hand between the backing plate and spring pack if there still on the axle or in the truck .
fyi : there the same housing as a srw but the welded on flange to hold the backing plate is set in more and the DRW hubs and drums are installed . same shaft length and other parts . dont over pay also there a dime a dozen still in yards with older stuff . i got one out back now .

Re: Cab & Chassis Dually rear end . How to Identify
All cab and chassis are 14 bolt axles(easy to identify with the bolt on pinion and diff shape)
You can also identify them by the hub, the hub will stick out about 5 inches past the wheel mounting surface, a SRW 14 bolt will have a hub that only sticks out about 2-3 inches. And of course the above mentioned mentioned spring pad to backing plate distance. I should also mention wide dually axles are all Dana 70, no bolt on pinion. |
