Extra bracket on rear leaf spring

I have been looking over and taking pics of my recently purchased 71 k5 and am full of questions of course.
Here’s one for a more educated member, on the drivers side rear leaf there seems to be an extra bracket that really looks like it does nothing and there is not a matching one on the passenger side..what gives?

Someone added that at some point in its life, its not original.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I thought but wanted reassurance lol.
When I first saw it I was like, what the heck is that?!?
