Tailgate trunion bolt size?

This is for a 1966 fleetside if it matters.

Once again I cant find the bolts I removed and I have got so many coats of paint on the bed panel that I am sure I will have to re thread the opening for the bolts that mount the trunion hinge to the panel. I think its 3/8”-16 x 1” course but before I tap it the wrong thread and buy the wrong bolts I hope someone might know. The part doesnt come with new bolts so I will be looking to buy stainless. The bolt in the pic was from the set of the hood hinge to hood bolts which were 3/8”-16 x 1” course. I tried using it for size but with the multi paint layers and all it wasnt threading easily.

Re: Tailgate trunion bolt size?

tailgate is off of my 71 but not sure it's the same mounting bolt size..

tailgate drops off my 65 easy enough, but removing bolts from the farm truck is a one-way trip to extractor-ville

free bump for good luck!

Re: Tailgate trunion bolt size?

Thanks KB! Maybe thats why I cant find the bolts, they probably broke when I removed them.

Re: Tailgate trunion bolt size?

I used 1 x 3/8" 16 stainless button head bolts on my 71+72. maybe reduce the risk of having it stolen....Where did you get the trunion's from?

Re: Tailgate trunion bolt size?

You can get the correct bolts from LMC or another supplier. Then you won't be guessing the size.

Re: Tailgate trunion bolt size?

These were fine thread bolts for certain. Just replaced my trunnions and hardware back in September. I'll see if I can dig up bolts if you still need the sizes.
