Help with hood emblems

I'm putting my hood emblems with the reflector on it and I bought threading cutting nuts to screw onto the studs coming off the emblems. There were the old ones I took off but didn't save them because I planned on getting new ones. With these new ones, I'm having a hard time screwing them on. I bought various sizes so I was able to try different ones. It almost appears to look like the threads on the studs from the emblem has been rounded off. Any ideas on this one? I'm not sure what to do and with the cost a new set-up, ...its very pricey. Thanks.

I just finished putting my vette back together and found that if I threaded them on before mounting the emblems on the body made it a lot easier to get them started with one hand while the other holds the emblems in place.
