rust issue
Not sure what I am asking, but gonna try. My son's 69 is showing some rust on the cab top. He loves the rat rod look and does not want to do much to get it painted. I am good with that, I think it is kinda cool too. But, I want to try and save him some trouble later on by trying to stop the rust. I have read and saw a you tube video by eastwood about rust inhibitor and how it can be used and not need anything over it. My thought is, if he can spend a weekend doing this, and save his Rat Rod look, would it be worth it? I am ok with getting a DA and just hitting the spots with sandpaper and primer, but he loves the look of the truck and I don't want to discourage him by putting my two cents into it. Any advice out there would be nice. RR

Re: rust issue
There are some threads here that might help. Some involve using CLR and a Scotchbrite pad. Here's one thread to get you started: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=798889

Re: rust issue
Show some pictures of what you're talking about. I had some roof problems on my truck and the rust was getting fairly severe. I used POR15 and while tacky misted with primer, just in the problem area. Then used seam sealer in the gutter area.

Re: rust issue
Seal it, if it is bad clean and scrub it off there. If it just the little tiny pits showing and I was not going for a complete repaint just get a quality wax for it.
My original paint truck is going on 14 years with just wax. |

Re: rust issue
Awesome, thanks guys. So you just spray it on, scrub with either steel wool or a scotch brite pad and wax? I will for sure show my son this. He can keep the rat rod look and keep the rust at bay as well. Will also try and get some photo's thanks.
