Need advise on how to install fuel regulator

Hey forum!

So I've been having dieseling issues and I've come to the conclusion that it could be the fuel pressure. I'm still debating on what fuel regulator to purchase so if you have any pointers there too, please let me know. One of you guys told me about the Mr Gasket dial-in regulator.

Anyway, I've never worked with a live fuel line. How do I go about making all the adjustments without spilling fuel everywhere? I assume there's a depressurize valve?

Regulator won’t stop dieseling.
You need to close the primary throttle enough to cut off the air.
You need air, fuel and ignition for combustion.
You can control the air. You can’t control the hot spot inside the manifold or the fuel being siphoned into the intake with the throttle open.
Turn your idle down.

Is the vac pot on the distributor hooked to manifold vac on the carb?
More timing at idle makes it idle higher allowing the idle to be turned down.
Try that first.

You might want to check your vac pot is good too.
Just apply a little lung power to the hose to make it work. That fine taste of rubber and fuel/oil from the hose won’t hurt you.
I’m assuming this is a stock Rochester carb.

It’s an Edelbrock 1406. Fairly new.

Are you shutting the key off and have it diesel?

Yes, after switch is off, it struggles a couple cycles then finally shuts down. Only happens when the engine has been running over 10 mins or so.

Ok try the things I suggested and if it still does it then we’ll look into a regulator.

The easiest fix is full manifold vaccum to vac advance canister then when the engine is turned off it looses all advance. Usually the vac canister have about 18 or more degrees of advance.

Aside from other factors that may cause dieseling, most (all?) Edelbrock carbs need a fuel regulator as most mechanical pumps will exceed the 4.5-6 PSI that the Eddy's can handle. Here's the setup I use...a Mr Gasket fuel regulator and a VDO fuel pressure gauge (made in the USA and about $20 from Summit, VDO-153002).

The fuel pressure will drop off after sitting a while. I usually wrap the connection at the carb with a shop towel to absorb any fuel and keep it from dripping on the intake.
