'72 Chevy grill insert help
I just got my insert today to replace the one broke during engine install.
How the heck do you install these damn clips? I cannot get them to snap in. I've read some guys have filled either the clip or the outer grill. Anyone have any tricks? I have seven left with all on the bottom. I even tried a little wd40 and a little grease. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
I filed my grill shell slots and then slid right in. It doesn’t take much at all. A lot easier than attending to push them in.

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
Now I have the headache of two upper ones already in.. Have to figure out how to file with the grill hanging. Or try and pull those out without wrecking the grill.

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
The clips are nylon, run them over a sanding block. 320 grit Just the tip/s.

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
I use channel locks, paint sticks and rubber coated tension clamps like these. Go slow and protect the soft aluminum. You’ll get it.

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
Okay. Dumb question, but I keep looking at Bowie emblem. On the inside of it it had "top" on the fat side of the emblem..
So that is how I installed it. Is that correct? Or should I switch it around so the thinner side is up?

Re: '72 Chevy grill insert help
Awesome. Thank you. For some reason it didn't look right to me.
