10 grand to spend on your truck.
Ok guys if you had 10 grand to spend on your truck what would you spend it on. For me it would be a crate hp383 and rebuild all the suspension. How about you, let's hear it...

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Go though the Cad 500 and turbo 400 that are in it to have them fresh and ready to hit the road, a new windshield and body and paint work.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Would be cutting to super close, but for me it would be an LT1/8L90E combo.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
II would get flawless show car bodywork and paint job.
...of course ten grand would only be enough to cover the driver's side front fender, but since I'm fantasizing about having $10,000 to spend on anything, I may as well pretend I could find a shop willing to do it for that price. Last edited by BRL; 08-25-2020 at 03:18 AM. |

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
I am starting on this now. Bought a LS motor 2 months ago paid 3000 and delivered it to my mechanic yesterday. PSI stand alone wiring harness 800 two weeks ago. Suspension parts from Cooper Restorations 1100. Going to buy Vintage Air this week 1500. Misc 1000 so far. Don't think 10K is going to do it.

I'd buy a couple more trucks

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
That one is real simple...A Cummins swap into Otis would be in order.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Tough one... been considering a 6.2LS With Tr6060, but I really think $10,000 would go a long way toward a 2nd truck. If I had to choose right now, its a engine and transmission swap for the current truck. If its money in the bank, then I would probably be looking hard for truck number 2.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Remove my 91 bed and replace with a 67 fleetside. Paint to match or repaint entire truck depending on how much money I have left.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Some cab rust repair, replace the bed with another longstep (w/spare tire cutout and mount), quickie paintjob, clean up the engine bay.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Finish it with a complete green interior and air conditioning, restore the engine bay to original (looking), and put the rest in the gas tank because I really just want to drive it around.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
The engine doesn't need it, but if I had to blow an extra 10K I'd float it all on a nice rebuild. If I had to just blow it on Chevy, can't justify that on my Super, so I'd sell that for a step side or toward a K10-20 with an LT1ish.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Not that I'd necessarily want LS power in my truck, but one of my neighbors just sold a late-model "Suburban?" that ran like a watch for $1500. It had a lot of body damage from a crash, but the guy had been driving it for a couple of years like that. The wife is balking at spending the money to rebuild the truck engine, and maybe it only needs valve seals and guides. Once the heads come off, the truth surfaces on cylinder taper, and then it's the time to do it right. If it had been 8-lug, I would have asked about the price. It would be really nice to have the ABS on the old girl. Then again, it's simple enough to fix like it is. Decisions, decisions...

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Done it about 3 years ago, new GM crate motor, new trans, new brakes, new tires and wheels( wheels used repainted) , new exhaust, new steering, rewire everything under the hood, and fix anything else that doesn't work as it should.
Looks like I haven't spent a dime on it in years but runs and drives great. Rather have one that runs good than one that looks good. |

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Considering where she's currently at, new bolt kit to hold the body to the frame, big block brackets, heads cam and intake for my 454, Eaton tru trac 4.10 limited slip rear for the ho52, chevy 2x4 nv4500 with a short throw shifter and weighted shift knob, new driveshaft for behind that setup (most likely out of the truck I get the trans from), finish the body work, paint it forest service green with an Ivory top, 72 front bumper, 67 grille and hood, tailgate, tires and wheels, led lighting upgrade, and then if there's anything left over (which I highly doubt) I'd fix up the cap that's currently on it. I'd also try and get a good working stereo in it (don't worry I'm not cutting my dash).

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Keep & enjoy the '71 GMC. Maybe sell the '72 Blazer. Take the money from the Blazer, add the $10,000 and buy/build a '66-'67 Chevelle convt.

Fix the dent I put in the bedside, and get the truck painted.

Re: 10 grand to spend on your truck.
Finally do the LS or LT swap on my 70. There is nothing better than a old truck running like a new truck.
