How close is too close?
I'm in the process of installing a bed tank and it's looks like the tailpipes and the fuel line are going to be close to the tank. Wondering if there is a spec on the safe distance. It's ironic the exhaust from the mufflers back was one of the few things on this truck which didn't need attention. As always any feedback and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Re: How close is too close?
Not sure at this point haven't had a chance to put tank up. There won't be a lot of room if it's less than an inch I will redo the exhaust, maybe that is even to close. I'm going to check with a buddy of mine who does state inspections maybe somewhere in the manual there is a spec on this. Thanks for your reply.

I am going through the same task you are. I’m thinking 3” away from any fuel source that s a minimum. Someone else may say different.

Re: How close is too close?
Blazers and suburbans have back tanks in similar placement you can either exist before the wheel like stock or carry it back just give it some room if your not comfortable take it to a exhaust shop to finish
How far are you lowering your truck? |

Re: How close is too close?
I like the mufflers under the bed as opposed to under the cab so I may not be able to exit in front of the wheel although I do like the look. I will figure something out once I test fit the tank. It's lowered 2" will be running 235/50-17 tires and that will put it pretty much where I want it. Thanks again for your input.

Re: How close is too close?
You can also use header wrap for the tailpipes near the tank

Re: How close is too close?
If your running a back bumper you will have them dropped down a bit anyway
Look at the lowest bit which proubly be the front cross member aim to keep higher then that |

Re: How close is too close?
How hot does the actual pipe get at the exit end anyways after it's traveled the length of the vehicle, 120-150 degrees?? Heat shield on the pipe or the tank. Don't need much of an air gap between the 2 with a shield. Header wrap will just hold water and rot the pipe that far back
