1968 outer rocker help
I’m in the process of fitting my outer rocker to my 68 build. I did a complete floor replacement and a and b pillar patches, footwell patches and cab corners. when i fit the outer rocker to the a and b Pillar i have like a 1/2” gap from the floor to the lip of the outer rocker I’m just wondering if anybody could send a couple pictures of what the gap should be as well as the elevation of the lip compared to the floor. I’m going to put the door back on to make sure it fits well to the door but my truck was so rotted out that i never had a good idea of how it should fit. Thanks in advance

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
Use your door to locate the outer rocker panel. Use tech screws (self drilling & tapping sheet metal screws) to lock the rocker panel in place while fitting it up. The screws work where clamps cant and the screws can be removed later and the holes filled with weld.

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
That is correct. You will end up with about 1/2 inch from the rocker to the floor. It leaves a little channel there to run wires through and is covered by the sill plate.
Ironangel is correct that you should use youre door to locate the outer rocker panel. I've had to take the door on and off so many times, trying to get the rocker right. Did you fix your door yet? I made the mistake of fixing the door after welding the rocker and had to redo the rocker. |

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
Good info Jason! You sparked my memory...That vertical edge on the rocker panel should line up with the pinch weld edge at each end of the panel. That edge is what the weather stripping attaches to. Fit your door first because that weather stripping lip can be bent to fit and line up with the lip on the pillars. Hope that makes sense...

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
Ok thanks a couple pictures would be helpful I’m guessing there are some holes drilled on the pinch weld and on the a and b pillar on the outer rocker I’m also guessing there is some spot welds from outer rocker to floor just to the outboard side of the channel securing the outer rocker on the top side. Is there seam sealer in the channel? Again pictures would be helpful somebody had pieces of galvanized sheet metal patches in there with big chunks of bondo so there’s nothing to compare to.

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
Here's a google search link showing images of rocker replacement that have been posted here in the past:
https://www.google.com/search?q=rock...=lnms&tbm=isch Look and see if what you need to see is in there. Might take some scrolling. The truck I have been working on lately had all of the outer floor missing as well as A and B pillar lower parts missing...there were new rockers hacked in that looked great, but there was still tons of rust and very little reference left. I made the mistake of removing the doors and new rockers and thinking I had had chance to realign everything, but the doors are the key. |

Re: 1968 outer rocker help
Take a look at my build thread. I tried to put some good info in there about the rocker replacement. Should be the last couple of pages.
