Opinions on Zexel Torsen Locking Diffs? (Clutchless Posi)
Hey Gang,
I was wondering if any of you have had experience or have opinions on the zexel torsen limited slip units? They are the clutchless posi's that come in the new LS1 camaro's and firebirds and even some hummers. I am considering getting one my pickup but would like to know how streetable they are or how well they work if anyone has had experience with them? SLPonline.com has them for $99.99 and they will work with my new Sonoma Pickup. I may also get one for the 70 C10 when those clutches are toast. What do you guys think? http://www.torsen.com/general/general_faq.htm Here's the technical PDF on the T2 Torsen you can get for only $99.99 http://www.torsen.com/files/Torsen%...cal%20Sheet.pdf And for only $100 eek: http://slponline.com/view_product.asp?PARTNUMBER=64501T Joe : |

It sounds like a good unit. The power capacity would have to be pretty decent since they put them in camaros and the firebirds probably good up to 400 horse i would guess. I don't know of anybody running them in trucks or with loads to haul.

I put one in my IROC.. transplanted the whole rear end from a 2000 SS. Im quite happy with it. Locks up great when launching.
I had an Auburn Pro Posi unit in my old rear end and the Torsen is jsut as good. Can't beat the price of those SLP take out units either!

Well they sell a few types I believe. The $99 ones are "new" in the sense that they were installed by GM and then taken out and replaced by heavy duty ones by SLP in their signature cars. They havent seen road use... so new but installed or used but never driven? lol

I wouldn't think they would hum or whine as long as the backlash is set correctly. I saw 1 service bulletin on them about a squeak they tend to make but by adding GM Posi fluid to the unit it quiets the worm gears down. I am going to have this unit installed professionally so the backlash should be ok. I don't think my 4cyl 2.2's going to rip the guts out of it too easy
