I recently removed the left door panel and discovered one of the 'nut' inserts is gone. I've thought about how to fix this but, haven't really come up with a good solution. I thought about trying to take a nut of correct size and grind it down a bit on 4 sides to a 4 sided configuration and epoxy glue it in. Anyone ever fixed this same problem?

Not sure what size it is, but you might be able to find a nutsert to fit in the square opening.

I have a 1969 truck and had a similar situation. I had 1 or 2 of the nuts on the door come off when I was used some force getting the bolt out. I replaced the nuts with 1/4-20 cage nuts from the hardware store. I don't know if that will work for you on the 65 but it kind of looks like it will.

Quick and easy: use a nylon license plate mount. From any parts store.

On a few of mine, I drilled them out an insalled the correct size nutsert.

Well, I checked on both the plastic license plate insert and, the metal clip nut to fix the bolt hole. The plastic insert was for a #8 or #10 screw and wasn't compatible with a 1/4x20 bolt. I could get a metal clip but would have to purchase 25 of them. So I ended up using a square nut with 1/4x20 threads. I had to slightly enlarge the hole with a small file and, made it a snug fit. I left about 1/16th of the nut sticking thru to be able to get a good weld on it. It doesn't look as good as I wanted it to but, it's covered up by the door panel. I started cleaning it up with my 4" grinder and, it was too big. That's why you see the gouge in the door. Ended up using my dremel to finish it. I put a quick coat of primer on it and replaced the panel. Only took me about 15 minutes from start to finish.
