1971 SWB C10 with a 1970 Grille?

I have a 1971 C10 that has been in my immediate family since it was purchased new. It is very clearly a 1971- VIN says its a 1971, and it has disc brakes.

The odd thing is it has a grille from a 1970.

Was this common- to had carry-over parts from the previous model year? It is a lower optioned Custom Deluxe so I guess it wouldn't surprise me. I am in the process of a frame of resto-mod and even though I am modifying the heck out of it, I want to keep the original look (color, trim, exterior options, etc)

Thanks

I've never seen it. What is the serial number, is it a low number? Can you see the build date anywhere?

I would say it has been replaced. It looks like a later 70 grill and still has 71-72 headlight bezels.

71-72 would have parking lights in bumper. Plastic insert is from a 70. That’s weird. Every thing from the front tells me it’s a 70

I'll grab some pics of the glove box door when I get over there today.

The hood appears to be a 71/72, but other than the headlight bezels, that's about it. I agree that the 69/70 grille and bumper were added.

Re: 1971 SWB C10 with a 1970 Grille?

Here is the pic from the SPID.

I was in the garage taking pictures, and my mother (I am using the 3rd bay in her garage) came and asked what I was doing.

She went on to inform me that in the late 70's, she had hit a deer in Leesburg, VA. She said, "I had no money and told the shop I took it to to fix it on the cheap!"

There is a high probability that they may have swapped the entire grille/bumper. Not sure how bad the damage was, though.

She is going to look through old photo albums to see if she has pictures from before that incident that can substantiate what grille It may have on it when it was purchased.

I'll be honest, I never had heard of it until that moment. She lived there for a year, and proceeded to tell me she had 2 accidents at the same intersection. In one, she hit a deer. In the other some lady hit the left front corner of the truck.

Small world!!
