Shocks

Good day fellow 67-72 enthusiasts. Im after 4 shocks for my C20 (1972)
No idea where to start. Is their one better than another? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I just put KYBs on front and back of my '68 C/10. Of course, mine's a half-ton with coil suspension, so things may be different, but it was a good upgrade. I would look at their selection for 3/4 tons.

I put KYB’s front and rear of my C2500 and haven’t had any issues. Check out RockAuto for the parts numbers and then check Amazon for the price. I think I got mine from Amazon because they were a little cheaper.

I bought the fronts from CarParts.com. I had a rebate from my bank to use them. So I bought an alternator and 2 front shocks, to get a bigger discount, and they split my order and only rebated the shocks.
Done with them.
Got the rear shocks a week later from RockAuto. Half the price of that other outfit. Got a RockAuto discount code from the good friends on this site.
The KYBs were slimmer than the 20-year-old Monroes I was still running.
Truck feels really tight on turns and braking. Solidly stable on the freeway.

I put KYB Gas-A-Just shocks on my K20 many years ago to replace the mushy Monroe Gas Magnums (very disappointed in those Monroes). Overall I have been satisfied with the KYBs. They seemed a bit firm at first but not at all harsh, and either smoothed out a bit in time or I got used to the feel.

I've always used Monroes and put these on my 1992 K1500 Suburban and the Burb rides well, sits nice and suspension hardly drops when loaded up like when I brought my crate 350 back from Montana with the Burb. I also have the same shocks on my 1972 C10 pickup.

I put Gabriel Coil Overs on the front and rear.
It corrected the front end Dive and rear end bounce.
Very pleased

Let me add, that I run my truck at stock height and factory suspension components.

I would avoid Monroe Magnums, The magnums on my C20 were so stiff they broke the upper mounts. Truck rode like rock. I am currently running KYB Excel-G because they were inexpensive and available same day. They are a big improvement over the Magnums. KYB Excel-G are a twin tube shock designed to ride similar to factory. Next time I will make sure to purchase a monotube design like KYB monomax/gas-a-justs or Billsteins. Monotubes should increase performance & ride quality. i should have spent a bit more and waited for the KYB Gas-a-just.
