The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
I didn’t mean to do it, but it happened. An old friend called me out of the blue and wanted to know if I was interested in his 1974 Inka BMW 2002.
-Well, hell no I’m not interested in another project! Do you think I’m stupid? A BMW? Everyone knows that BMW means Break My Wallet! Pass!! -How much? -Oh, I’ll be over on Saturday to get it. So... Walter has been kicked aside again for another stupid, expensive European car. I’ll admit that I have a proclivity for such. Meet my new addition... the Succubus. At some point I’ll realize it was NOT a good deal! |

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
I bought the car 5 days ago. In those five days, I’ve already spent $1800 on extraneous parts to make this thing just safe to drive.
Center link, tie rod ends, lower ball joints, brake calipers, header, mid-pipe, motor mounts, and a $hit-ton of small parts later. But it ran and drove up on the trailer, so winner. |

Today the Succubus was sharing space with the Falcon, Walter (& OG Walter) and the ZR1.

I mean on the plus side they're so insanely collectible right now you will probably have to get particularly creative to lose $ on it...

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
Day #5:
Well, I was going to try to fix the cracked manifold, but it’s cracked WAY more than I thought. So, I just decided to pull the trigger and buy a stainless steel header & exhaust. I also realized that the center link, tie rod ends & lower ball joints need replacement. Did I show y’all the sketchy a$$ old fan that’s glued up? This thing is going to hundred dollar me to death, but everything is on the way. I also bought a nice set of buckskin E90 front & rear seats. I figure these things are pretty rare’ish, so I hope it’s a good investment. Plus, it’s a cool little car. |

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
I took day #6 off for family & turkey.
Day #7: lots of small stuff happening. I got the worn out steering pieces and ball joints removed. Sandblasted the steering arms, lower control arms, and other related parts. Then I’m painting all of them while I continue to wait on parts to arrive. Pics of the worn out steering and pre-blast & painted lower arms. Just to prove I’m moving forward. |

That car is like a Harley Davidson...The question is not how much, but how many 100's does it cost....

Day 8:
Well, since I’m still waiting on parts, I decided to inspect the shocks/struts and concluded that they are worn out. So now I have new shocks, strut cartridges & drop springs (because lower is always a little better) on the way. Last edited by nlped; 11-29-2020 at 09:38 PM. |

More disassembly today. Lots of cleaning, blasting & paint. Picture to prove a few more pieces are missing.

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
Oh yeah, I’ve been around Vintage BMW’s for 20+ years, so I’ve read lots of his articles in Roundel and a few of his books. He knows these little cars backwards and forward. This 2002 is my first one of these.

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
Nothing picture worthy, but parts are finally trickling in. Hopefully, I’ll get most of them so I can get it back together soon.

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
No real picture value again today, but...
Finally a full day of reassembly. I got the rear suspension reinstalled with new H&R springs and new shocks. Got the new strut cartridges and H&R springs assembled. Also got the new motor mounts installed along with a bunch more parts sandblasted and painted. Still waiting on the steering parts, lower ball joints and the header. |

New shiny! I always have liked BMW's, just never had any money. Although, I saw a 2000 540i m-sport 6-speed tonight for a reasonable price in great shape. OY!

Well, not all the parts have arrived, but a lot have. I think I’m only waiting on a couple of brake parts, 1 additional BBS wheel, fan shroud and some swaybar bushings. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and that means a day of parts installation. |

Re: The Succubus, I added a ‘74 BMW 2002
I've been lucky enough to find two budget friendly E30s, but never a 1600 or 2002. I think the days of cheap E30s are gone now too. It'll be nice to see this one back on the road again.
